Why can't I use an old or inactive phone number?

Carriers often recycle phone numbers and reassign them to new users. This prevents you from receiving the SMS verification codes needed to authenticate your account and verify your identity. For your protection, we only accept currently active contact information.

What happens if my old phone number shows up in a data exposure?

Even if you no longer use a particular phone number or email address, we'll still include it in our removal requests if it appears in a data exposure found by our scans. If our scans confirm the data deletion request is honored, the exposure will be removed, even if the contact information is no longer active.
