What Does "Closed" Mean?

The status "Closed" can have different meanings depending on the Data Broker or website involved.

It can mean:

  • Your data was successfully deleted from the site
  • All possible removal attempts have been exhausted, and the site did not respond
  • There wasn't enough information to confidently verify your identity
  • The exposure didn't fully match the details in your Identity Vault

A "Closed" status doesn't mean your data was ignored. It reflects the outcome of all available actions taken on your behalf, and you'll always have visibility into the exposure within your account.

When Identity Verification Isn't Possible

If the Global Response Team cannot verify your identity using the information in your Identity Vault (profile):

  • The request may be marked as "Failed."
  • The exposure will remain visible on your Data Brokers page under the "Discovered" status, so you always have insight into it.

If multiple removal requests are sent and the site does not respond, the exposure may be marked as "Closed" to indicate that no further action can be taken at this time. Don't worry! When our scheduled scans detect the exposure, it will reopen, and our Global Response Team will resume the removal process.
