What is the Dark Web Exposure Scan?
Overview:
The Dark Web Exposure Scan is an exclusive feature of the Signature Services License. This article explains what it is, how it works, and what to expect from your results.
What is the Dark Web?
The dark web is a hidden part of the internet that is not accessible through a regular browser. It operates anonymously and is often used by cybercriminals to buy and sell stolen personal information - including names, email addresses, passwords, financial data, and more.
When your information ends up on the dark web it can be traded and reused indefinitely - making it a serious ongoing risk even years after the original breach occurred.
What is the Dark Web Exposure Scan?
The Dark Web Exposure Scan monitors dark web sources and hacker forums specifically for your personal information. When your data is detected Privacy Bee alerts you and takes action to limit further spread through our Containment Process.
This feature is available exclusively on the Signature Services License.
How the Containment Process Works
When an exposure is detected on the dark web Privacy Bee follows a three step containment process:
1. Breach-to-Broker Mapping Privacy Bee identifies which data brokers have been observed working with or purchasing data from the specific breach source where your information appeared.
2. Aggressive Targeted Removal Removal requests are immediately escalated against the high risk brokers identified in step one - preventing your newly exposed data from spreading further across the surface web.
3. Containment Monitoring Privacy Bee tracks the spread of your specific data points and continuously targets new brokers as they acquire your information.
What If No Exposures Are Found?
If your scan shows no dark web exposures that's a great outcome. Your dashboard will show zero exposures found and your Privacy Risk Impact will reflect no additional points from dark web activity. Privacy Bee will continue monitoring so you are alerted immediately if anything changes.
