Understanding the Data Brokers Page

Overview:

The Data Brokers page gives you a detailed view of where your personal information has been found, what action has been taken, and where things currently stand. This article walks you through what each section means so you always know exactly what Privacy Bee is doing on your behalf.

Summary Metrics

At the top of the Data Brokers Page you’ll find three summary numbers:

  • Companies Monitored - The total number of companies currently being monitored for your information
  • Exposures Detected - The total number of exposures currently identified across your monitored sites including any that have reappeared after removal
  • Exposures Removed - The total number of exposures that have been successfully removed

These numbers will change over time as Privacy Bee adds more companies to its monitoring network, detects new exposures, and confirms completed removals. Don’t be alarmed if the numbers feel large - data brokers have been collecting personal information for years and what you’re seeing reflects that accumulated exposure.

Exposure Details

Each entry on the Data Brokers page shows:

  • Data Broker - The name of the company or site where your exposure was found
  • Status - The current stage of the removal process
  • Last Scan - The most recent date a scan was performed on that site
  • Last Action - The most recent date an action was taken by our system or privacy team
  • Coverage - A green check mark indicates the site is covered under your current license

If Last Scan and Last Action show different dates that's completely expected. Some follow-ups and processing steps happen between scheduled scans.

Understanding Exposure Statuses

Here’s what each status means:

  • Discovered - Your information has been detected on this site and is awaiting action from our privacy team
  • Removal In Progress - A removal request has been submitted and we are waiting for the company's response. Some data brokers take up to three months or longer to comply - Privacy Bee will continue following up until the removal is confirmed
  • Closed - Your information was successfully removed in our most recent scans. We will continue monitoring this site in case your data reappears
  • Clean - No exposure has been found on this site
  • Failed - The opt-out path is currently unavailable, the company did not respond, or the data did not match the details in your Identity Vault. The exposure will automatically reopen on the next scheduled scan and we'll attempt the request again

A 'Failed' status does not mean Privacy Bee has given up. Our system will automatically retry on the next scheduled scan.

A 'Closed' status can mean one of three things:

  1. Successfully removed - Your information was confirmed as removed in our most recent scans. Privacy Bee will continue monitoring this site in case your data reappears
  2. Company unresponsive - All reasonable removal attempts have been exhausted and the site has not responded. Privacy Bee will automatically reopen the exposure on the next scheduled scan and try again
  3. Data did not match - The exposure details did not fully match the information in your Identity Vault. If this happens check that your Identity Vault is as complete and accurate as possible to improve future match rates
